Green River
About Green River wind farm
After acquiring the project in June, 2009, we have worked hard to build momentum in the development process. Our Green River wind project was a great asset for us to acquire from FPC services because it had such advanced grid studies. For this project a Feasibility Study and System Impact Study have already been completed by Commonwealth Edison. A final Facility Study will be completed in the coming months.
The project has a capacity of up to 437MW, to be built in two phases using anywhere from 175-290 turbines, depending on the specific wind turbine model chosen. We anticipate building it as a two phase project because of the large size of the project. Located between Walnut and Rock Falls, IL, the project is largely within the Bureau Valley School District.
The wind farm has the potential to supply about 109,000 homes with green energy and could offset approximately 400,000 tons of CO2 each year.
There are many economic benefits for the community with this project. Current property tax legislation means that for the full 437MW wind farm, property taxes of more than $4.5 million per annum will be payable, of which in excess of $2.5 million will go to the Bureau Valley School District. In addition, annual payments to local landowners will run into millions of dollars, and a number of temporary construction and permanent operations/ maintenance jobs will be created by a project of this size.
